JAPANESE Acupuncture and ORIENTAL Medicine for the Treatment of Pain

From an Oriental Medicine perspective, pain is your body’s way of communicating that there is an imbalance. According to an Oriental Medicine saying, “There is no pain if there is free flow. If there is no free flow, there is pain.”  Something, whether external trauma, stress, overwork, diet, lifestyle, or the environment, prevents free flow and results in pain.
Oriental medicine incorporates the use of acupuncture, herbs, and individualized changes to diet and lifestyle to reduce and manage pain. Pain from acute or chronic conditions is the most common reason patients seek acupuncture and Oriental medicine care. These conditions include, arthritis, headaches, migraines, menstrual pain, pain from traumatic injury and nerve pain.

How does Acupuncture Work?

In Japanese acupuncture needles are either inserted very shallow, or used as “contact-needling” – meaning no needles are inserted and stimulate specific acupoints.
A number of studies suggest that acupuncture needles release endorphins and enkephalins, which act as natural painkillers in the body, creating a deeply relaxing feeling during and after an acupuncture session, as well as affecting the brain’s serotonin system, which is responsible for mood stability.
Acupuncture can be used for the following:
